Remove Urine From Carpet

Remove Urine From Carpet

Many of us make one of two common mistakes when cleaning up a pet
accident.

Mistake 1: Begin by using a towel or a paper towel to absorb the spot.
If you begin by absorbing the spot with a towel, you will push much of the spot
deeper into the padding and will spread the problem. The towel will still absorb much of the spot, but there is a better method for cleaning the accident.

Mistake 2: Begin by applying carpet spotter first.
If you begin cleaning the spot by applying carpet spotter, you will simply create a mixture of urine and carpet spotter that will be less effective at neutralizing the odor. Carpet spotter is most effectively used to clean up what is left after you remove the bulk of a spill.

So what is the most effective way to remove a pet accident?
Use a wet vacuum or a shop vacuum as soon as you find urine on your carpet to remove the bulk of the spot. This will pull the urine out without pushing urine deeper into the padding. Once the bulk of the spill is removed, you can use your carpet spotter to treat the area. Rinse the area with carpet spotter and blot with a clean cloth. Then rinse the area with clean water and blot with a clean cloth again.

The most important thing to remember is that you have to be very dilligent about cleaning up EVERY pet spot quickly and thoroughly. It only takes a few untreated spots to develop a urine smell.
