Spot Removal Tips

Basic Spot Removal Steps

1. The first step to removing spills is to remove as much as you can with a towel,
shopvac, or anything else you can find.

2. Using clean white cloths or paper towels, blot as much of the stain as you can. Repeat this over and over with new towels until you can't get any more color to transfer to the towel. Make sure not to rub the carpet or you will damage the fibers leaving an unsightly spot even after the spill is gone.

3. After removing as much of the stain as possible, repeat step to using warm water to loosen more of the stain. Pour a small amount of water on the spot and continue to blot with fresh towels. Repeat until no color transfers to the towel.

4. If the stain remains after using clean water you can make a cleaning solution out of 1/4 teaspoon of dishwashing liquid to a cup of warm water. Using the cleaning solution repeat step 3 as needed until no more color can be removed.

5. If you resorted to using a cleaning solution, you will need to repeatedly flush the area with a small amount of water and blot with clean towels until you have removed as much of the solution as possible.

6. Finally, place a clean towel on the spot and then place a heavy glass, ceramic, or other object that won't stain on top of the towel. Leave this overnight. Some of the remaining stain will sometimes wick into the towel as the spot dries.

7. Vaccum thorougly after the carpet is dry.

Sometimes stains will need to be professionaly removed. If you are unable to remove the spot, give us a call and we will be happy to help.
